Abstract
This research work aims to analyse the physicochemical properties of biodiesel produced
from the oil mixture of Ackee and Neem seeds. The oil from both Ackee and Neem seeds
was extracted by Soxhlet Apparatus using N-Hexane as a solvent, the setup consist of a
condenser, substrates, water pump, magnetic stirrer, heater and laboratory apparatus. The oil
extracted from both Neem seeds and Ackee seeds was mixed and divided into five different
ratios to know which one is having a high yield of biodiesel from the samples. The sample
formulations consist of 100% Ackee oil, 100% Neem seed oil, 80:20 % Neem/Ackee, 70:30
% Neem/Ackee oil, and 60:40 % Neem/Ackee oil. The physiochemical analysis of the oil
involves the determination of refractive index, kinematic viscosity, specific gravity, ash
content, volatile matter, moisture content, heating value, and FFA (Free Fatty Acid). Based
on the comparison of characteristic fuel properties of biodiesel with ASTM standard diesel
oil, it has been observed that sample A, which is 100 percent of Ackee biodiesel oil is very
poor as biodiesel because of its high level of Free Fatty Acid (FFA) and kinematic viscosity.
while samples B (100% Neem), C (80:20 % Neem/Ackee), D (70:30 % Neem/Ackee) and E
(60:40 % Neem/Ackee oil) are relatively ok as biodiesel which can be used as an alternative
for petroleum diesel production. Production of biodiesel oil through the mixing of Ackee and
Neem seeds has indicated that many unwanted or waste seeds in our environment can be
converted to energy which could contribute to the availability of fuel in society.

Key words: Ackee seed oil, Neem seed oil , biodiesel, soxhlet apparatus.
