Investigative study of an intelligent irrigation system

Khadeejah A ABDULSALAM, Ayomide M AGBEMI, John A ADEBISI.

Abstract
Lately, Irrigation systems have gained substantial attention owing to the rising demand for water conservation and improved crop yield. Scarcity of water in the soil due to climate change, degradation of land, and availability of related resources in some topographies of the world. In this study, the potential for utilizing advanced technologies in the development of an intelligent irrigation system was investigated. A comprehensive review of the literature was conducted and a framework was designed, which identified key considerations for the development of such systems, including the monitoring of soil moisture, weather conditions, and water quality. The various nodes and wireless technologies and electronic components utilized in the deployment of IoT-based irrigation systems were also explored, as well as the challenges and best practices for their implementation. These findings highlighted the importance of considering these factors in the development of intelligent irrigation systems, ultimately leading to improved water management, crop productivity, and food security.
