Abstract
A study of some tree characteristics was carried out between May to September 2009 at Wassaniya Forest Reserve in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Nigeria. The study area was purposively divided into four main plots based on vegetation density and human interference. Three sample plots each measuring 0.5 ha were randomly selected and demarcated at each main plot for the study and also serving as the replications. Point centered quarter method was used in assessing the vegetation. Data collected were on: average canopy spread, mean densities and basal areas, of both species and families. Different species and families of woody species were identified. The result showed that Combretum micranthum (199) and Guerra senegalensis (87) were the highest woody species in the reserve area, they were the most frequent (10-12), tolerant and dominant species. The species-found with low frequencies were Khaya senegalensis, Diospyros mespiliformis (1) and Boscia salicifolia (1).

Key words: Tree, Characteristics, Forest Reserve, Tangaza and Flora.
