Abstract
In this research paper an attempt was made to compare the performance of three different single slope basin solar still under the same climatic condition of Aliero town, 12o 16’72’N latitude and 4o27'6'E longitude. The experiment used three identical size solar stills having different design modifications named as distiller A (with blackened ceremic besin material), distiller B (with galvinized iron besin material non removable top) and distiller C (with galvinized iron top removable). The field efficiency was computed and used for comparison, the result obtained shows that distiller B has the highest efficiency of 40.05% followed by distiller A with 19.19% while C recorded the lowest efficiency of 7.7%. Distiller A’s low performance could be attributed to its low thermal conductivity while C 's poor performance was as a result of heat loss at the top side of the system. However, despite the fact that distiller A shows low field performance compered to B, ceremic could still be used as solar still besin materials, even though it was able to produce about 2 litres per day to overcome the corrosion- effect challenges.

Key words: efficient, solar still, ceremics, galvinized, iron, thermal, conductivity, Basin materials
