Pyrolysis of polyurethane using Copper oxide Nanoparticles

Hannatu Abubakar Sani.

Abstract
Abstract
Polyurethane is one of the most useful polymers (thermoset) in our country (Nigeria) more especially for mattresses use, insulation characteristic, cushioning etc. Waste management of polyurethane have become a great challenge to our society and among the ways of waste management incineration and land filling are the common way of Nigerian managing way of polymers waste. Among the waste management pyrolysis is the most promising solution as well as the best way in recycling of its monomers and energy recovery. In this research, pyrolysis of polyurethane waste was carried out using CuO-NPS. SEM and XRD were used in characterizing the biosynthesize CuO-NPS as well as and GC-MS and FTIR for the oil obtained from the pyrolysis. From the results obtained, it can be concluded that, the agglomerated spherically shape with the crystal size of 71 nm was obtained. Furthermore, the oil was rich in organosilicon, amine, esters as well as the heterocyclic compounds. CuO-NPs catalyzed oil particularly are reach in organisilicone compounds (32-37.21%), Acidic compounds (35.01%) and Esters (12.71%).

Key words: Keywords: Copper oxide, nanoparticles Polyurethane and Pyrolysis
